This combo oven has saved me from repairing an old stove’s oven and i have used it to bake several items, including cookies. The size is generous and the steam function is helpful. The top and one side can get hot. I put it on a chrome rolling cart and it looks great. The back is near the window blinds and neither heat nor steam from the vents causes any problem. I am glad i got it and since it’s still a novelty, i watch items heat or bake, too. The chicago metallic non-stick 4 piece toaster oven set fits in this with plenty of room to spare. I have seen the pan that comes with it warp (temporarily) from the heat but not the set. So far i have baked a casserole, tater tots, sandwiches, potatoes, fries, and i have reheated biscuits and rolls using the heat/steam combo. I look forward to making bread from scratch in it, too.
I got this cuisinart 4 months ago for my husband and i to use and haven’t used my big oven since. I learn new ways to use it every day. I’ve used the convection + steam and it was great. I’ve cooked a pot of rice in it. For small meals and cooking great veggies this is a great piece of equipment.
Have been using it for over 9 months now. Been using it to bake cookies, toast bread, bake pot roast, steam vegetables, warm dishes. I have even cooked traditional chinese dishes that only do well in big steamers (steam fish, chinese radish cakes,. . Very very versatile and pretty easy to keep clean. I i’ve even steamed rice in this thing. Things cook faster in here than normal oven, especially if you use steam feature. So recommend you experiment a bit with it. If you used steam feature, there will likely be some water caught under the metal tray. If you don’t dry out the water and try to toast/bake with it, the inside will turn steamy. So you just have to learn own to use the unit and adjust. I hardly ever use my regular oven anymore, and it is more energy efficient. In fact, i sometimes wish it is a bit bigger bigger so i can indeed skip using the main oven. This was my most satisfied purchase for the kitchen for the past 5 years.
Purchased this oven about 4 months ago and have loved it since. From frozen pizza to baked chicken to just reheating leftovers. The steam feature keeps leftovers moist and yummy and heats evenly (unlike a microwave). We actually replaced a microwave with this oven and have not missed the microwave at all.
I love this oven for baking fish and seafood. My favorite is to steam king crabs. I baked some cookies on the convection bake cycle but the cookies in the back row were done and the cookies in the front were still way undercooked. Did not find the temperature or air flow even throughout the oven. Over all i love it for steaming vegtables and seafoods and fish fillets. It appears to be a better steamer then a baking oven.
Just got my cuisinart steam oven a few days ago. I made ciabiatta bread yesterday ( first bread ever), and it turned out great. Used the dough setting on my wife’s bread maker, divided the dough and steamed it in the oven for 25 min at 100 degrees, then incised it, painted it with egg and cooked on bread setting at 400 for 25 min. Tonight i cooked my first fish ever, salmon steamed at 250 on bake/steam for 20 min. I also toasted some left over ciabiatta to eat along side. In short, i’m cooking stuff i’ve never cooked before quite easily. It is also really great for reheating and steaming vegetables. This is some seriously good kit for a very reasonable price. I passed on some scan pan cookware ( which i love) and bought this instead. I have other cookware, but this cannot be duplicated.
- Perfect addition to our kitchen
- Excellent, nicely made and designed!
- Beware the steam vents
I am a single man so a big oven like the thermador would be a little to big any way. I make often food for friends and so far i have used this oven in different modes. I love the steam function, made one of the best ribs and salmon ever. Also made french bread it was great. Usually i put a bowl of water in my regular oven to do these things but this works so much better. Also the convection function works great. The only thing so so is the toaster function. You cannot go wrong with this oven. The cook book with the oven is quite simple but a cookbook from miele and bosh can be downloaded on the www.
My husband is the chef in the family & he loves the steam option (i use it for toast). He makes sausage, chicken, etc – & heats up all leftovers. We are very particular about our kitchen items & this is a real ‘keeper’ .We even bought one for our daughter’s house & she loves it, too.
I was interested in getting a steam/convection oven because of a short article i saw in food and wine, and mentions in modernist cuisine. Unfortunately, it’s hard to find recipes using the combination techniques. Cuisinart provides a few recipes with the oven, and the recipe for roast chicken is fantastic. But much of the time, you’re going to be making things up as you go along. I’ve found that we’ve had a tendency to overdo things at first. I think the oven tends to heat quickly because it’s quite small. On the other hand, we fixed some fresh halibut recently using the bake/steam cycle that was very good. So, bottom line is that you need to be willing to experiment. And sometimes you’ll be a bit off the first time. But the results are very rewarding once you get it right.
The best counter top appliance in our gourmet kitchen. Cooks chickens perfectly and amazingly fast and consistent. Saves us many trips to the grocery store deli for the rotisserie chickens we thought could only be enjoyed form there. Now we make our own at home in 45 minutes. Pizza is better cooked in the oven,ok roasts as well.
Have had the oven for 2 days and have used it twice — once in steam mode and once in convection mode. Food looked and tasted good so no complaint there. However, the vents that expell the water vapor when in steam mode are located in the rear of the unit. My backsplashes were streaked with this water vapor– not unlike shower doors after a hot shower. Since my backsplash is corian, cleaning it was not a big problem. However, other surfaces, especially painted drywall, could present a much bigger issue. I suggest before purchasing this oven some thought be given to placement of the unit taking into consideration the vents are in the rear and expell hot steam along the width of the unit. The top of this unit gets really hot so be very careful not to store anything on top of it.

This morning i tried it for a new approach to cook bacon. It is the perfect answer for reheating frozen roll for dinner. I have the answer to finishing perfect croissants that are moist on the inside and flaky on the outside. A wonderful; useful addition to my kitchen.
Makes crispy french fries, chicken nuggets, etc. Does a great job at warming up leftovers. But, what i really love is the steam bake. Literally makes chicken and steaks melt in your mouth. Cook for a couple on 160 degrees.
I am working on a kitchen remodel and in doing my research i learned about steam ovens. The built in ones were extremely expensive so i decided to see if a counter top version exists. After reading about this and the reviews, i ordered it through amazon, and i have used it every day since it arrived. It is perfect for one person as it does it all. It makes perfect toast, better than both the toaster oven and the pop-up toaster both of which have headed off to new homes. I never liked using the microwave as a study i read years ago maintains that it destroys nutritional content in food, plus food never stayed hot. I have used the steam oven to cook everything from veggies to salmon plus warm up my leftovers, and it works great every time. I am thrilled with this purchase.
I bought the unit mainly for the summer time when i don’t want to generate a lot of extra heat when baking; these expectations were fulfilled; it definitely generates less heat then my full-sized oven. I have used the unit to bake bread but have found that the ‘bread’ setting does not work for traditionally shaped loaves because the proximity of the top crust to the top heating elements burns the top of the loaf; instead i use the ‘super steam’ setting, which does not use the top elements and provides temperatures that are high enough (400 degrees) for my bread baking method; i have also successfully baked traditionally shaped sweet bread loaves using this method. It would have been better if the unit had been designed with more control over the top elements (perhaps a 1/2-power setting or the ability to toggle the elements on/off in mid-cycle). The unit does work well using the bread setting for making lower-profile things like meatball or chicken parmesan sandwiches, browning the cheese and toasting the bread (i use french baguettes for these). The only other setting i have used so far is ‘steam,’ which works well for proofing bread at low temperatures.
So far, this oven is working perfectly and is cooking everything just as anticipated. And it looks beautiful in the kitchen. Wish it was a but bigger but aside from that i am very happy with it.
Nice features- howeveri’ve been using this oven for about three days now and i’m having fun experimenting with it. The first thing i cooked was a chicken and needless to say, i should of practiced on something smaller like a piece of bread. I’ve been working with ovens for the past 25 years as i’m a chef/restaurant owner therefore i’ve had plenty of experience using convection ovens, not just this small of one. It’s going to take a little ‘hands-on’ cooking to master this oven, and when you do, it will produce some great tasting food. It says that it will cut down your cooking time by 60 percent, but i haven’t found that to be true. The main thing, play around with it until you have it mastered. Be careful on how close the heating elements are to your product that your cooking or else it will be charbroil. If you have any doubts, just buy it. It’s fun to use and it’s very easy to clean. Can’t wait to cook some ribs in it and some sweet corn.
120 minutes of steady, uninterrupted steam
Absolutely the best invention. Makes stale bread tastes better. I use the bake steam setting at 325 for 5 minutes on bagels or baguettes and they always come out moist on inside and toasted on outside. The steam setting makes everything so moist and when u combine steam and bake together onmeat or bread you get both juicy and crispy.
Nicely made and easy to use. My mom who had a stroke is not able to understand the dial, even though it’s easy. So if anyone who will be using it is mentally challenged, think twice about getting it. A stove-top steamer works better than the steamer in this oven. Why do you need an oven with a steamer when you can steam on the stove?. I use my pressure-cooker steamer and it’s even faster. If you need it, it should serve you well for years. I certainly think it is better than a microwave, because i believe microwaved food is bad for the health. Do some research, and you will see. If you are pregnant, please do not stand near a microwave for the sake of your unborn child. So, for all around health reasons, i recommend this well-made oven.
I have a full sized convection oven; but this is so much better for small meals and reheating. I haven’t used all of the features yet; but so far it is a winner. It preheats crazy fast compared to my full size oven and it is running on 110 instead of 220 electric hookup.
Ton’s of functions i’ll never use. Reheats pizza in a magical way.
We purchased this oven after reading a review of the product in the december 2013 food and wine magazine. It is a very versatile tool. So far i have used it to warm expensive leftovers from a restaurant dinner and to cook fish. I am still having fun experimenting with it. I have some responses to some of the unhappy comments from other purchasers:–re insufficient instructions: our oven came with a thorough instruction book combined with a helpful recipe book. If your order did not include this you can download it from the cuisinart website. Also found the food and wine article helpful for cooking ideas. –re difficult to clean: the instruction book states you can use the steam function without food in the oven to loosen any food stuck to the walls, let the oven cool, then wipe the walls with a cloth or paper towel while still damp. I followed this procedure and cleaning was easy.
Food preparation time cut drastically, on certain kinds of foods; however, the steamer portion of this appliance is something i have wanted for a long while. Steamed claws, veggies, warmed-overs, you name it – this unit’s steamer is truly a special and personal gift. The size is much larger than i had anticipated. Actually seems as though the inside is larger than the outside. A bit expensive but between the convection/bake, the steamer and the numerous additional settings, it is genuinely something to behold. In my opinion, this appliance is well worth the price. We use this appliance much more frequently than the former oven we had.
Specialized bread proofing technology; bakes and proofs bread better and faster
This is a fantastic little oven, but it’s not perfect. First of all, as other reviewers have said, it would be nice if the oven were slightly larger. But i understand the compromise. If it were larger, it would be very inconvenient on my countertop. So i’ll just have to work with its size. The size does cause certain problems, though. For example, in some shelf configurations, and with deep casserole dishes or tall loaves of bread, the top of the dish or bread may be too close to the upper heating element. You have to keep an eye on it. Also, anything (particularly bread) that is too close to the convection outlet may brown too quickly. I bought this oven for the steam feature, of course.
Really like the steam feature. But wish you could set it for at least 2 different stages of cooking like other high end toaster ovens. This one you have to hang around and watch and wait to change cooking cycles. Very annoying when using the bread proofing feature. Also there is no plain bake setting without convection. Also when the time is up on your setting, the oven turns off. There is no way to have it continue or current setting or change to warm without manually changing the setting or timer. I expected better for this much money.
Start up time to initial steam is too long, steam emmisions are not evenly dispused through cooking chamber, water drippage out right side vents. Heavy water collection on tray during steam cycle (spits water – meaning steamer design is flawed). Air flow in convection cycle is poor and not uniform (square corners in cooking chamber and non-directional air out/return are causing this). Despite these flaws it definitely is superior to a regular convection oven to reduce food shrinkage and maintain moist foods.
This is new technology for me, but i like it so far. Consumer reports rated it highly, comparable to much more expensive ovens.
The convection cooks to temp. Easiest and tastiest steamed rice ever. This will allow me to eliminate the clunky rice steamer we own that sucks up storage space. Made ‘sous vide’ style filet mignons last week and then threw them in the cast iron frying pan for a minute to brown. Have not baked or proofed anything yet. Reheats things well especially with a wee bit of steam. I love the cuisinart cso-300.
Maybe better models are on the horizon, but for now, cuisinart is first to market with a consumer countertop combo oven. Professional kitchens have enjoyed the benefits of cooking with steam and convection for a while now, and it’s finally available for the home kitchen. This oven has really revolutionized the way i cook. I would seriously put it up there with the microwave, toaster, and electric mixer, as in how did we ever get by without them?.It makes many recipes that are difficult to make easy. Artisanal bread, perfect custards, crispy roast chicken, risotto, shellfish, the list goes on and on. And just about anything you would bake comes out better using the convection mode. The oven is easy to clean, runs smoothly, and has a nice chrome finish. To see a bunch of recipes to make using this oven, visit firepluswater[dotcom or google “combo oven flan”. ]
Hands down the best toaster oven ever. I hardly need to use my big oven any more. It’s an actual real appliance. Well built an extremely versatile.
Unique Steam Bake and Steam Broil functions as well as standard functions of a traditional countertop toaster oven
It’s healthier to use than a microwave and the food is so moist when using the steam option. It may take an extra couple of minutes to warm food, but it’s worth the wait. I even roasted a whole chicken in it and the results were delicious.
This countertop oven has virtually replaced my use of my oven/range. Has a wide variety of settings. Learn to use them all and it is a great oven.
I have had this for a few months now. And boy am i so [email protected]%# happy i got it. It is really a nice piece of kit. It has a quality to it that certainly has it appearing like a top quality item. I mostly bought it cause my old steamer, a cheap one, was giving out. I bought this and love it, i do have to change how i steam cook my items with this oven due to how it works. My old steamer pushed steam from the bottom up, this one pushes it out from the top side on the right. It has more area inside than my older steamer, so i have to think about where i place my potato and such in it. My old steamer had a two tray system, and i do miss that. So i had to re think of how to cook things in this steamer as it only has the one tray.
I’ve pretty much given up using my microwave and now am cooking almost everything in this steam oven. I love it and use it almost daily. Fish, vegetables, meat all come out tasting fresh and not over cooked. And every once in a while, i’ve used it to make toast, something i never really thought i would use it for. This has been one of the best investments i’ve made for my kitchen. It’s also a heck lot a lot cheaper than buying a built-in steam oven.
Use this several times a day from toast, steaming baby food, cooking whole dinners (especially fish) and really best of all: reheating leftovers and making them taste fresh and perfect again. This is our most used appliance by far. I stack a medium pyrex, then add the included metal rack, then place 2 au gratin dishes on top to fill it to max capacity and can make an entree, starch and side. Everything cooks perfectly and the dishes are easy to clean.
This is the best appliance i own. It does everything, plus it is perfect to sit on your counter. I can tell you it makes the best bread ever. It steams anything from lobster to carrots. The warm feature i use all the time. The best thing is that it doesn’t need to be filled every day. The side where the water is stored is very large and holds a lot of water. It is so easy to clean by just turning on the steam setting for about 15 minutes and then let it cool off, then just wipe it down.
Accommodates a whole 4-1/2 pound chicken or a 12-inch pizza; reheats foods without drying them out
I will give the mighty combo 4 stars. The unit is good, to very good, but not consistent. I use it most often each day for toast and for that, it is inconsistent. Browning some days more evenly on both sides than on other days. I tried one recipe from the cuisinart guidebook that came with the unit. Although i followed the tea bread recipe exactly, the bread was not cooked in the time stated. Also the bread bubbled over and made quite the mess. I will say it is easy to clean though. Made a great pumpkin pie in it as well. The unit was a tremendous help on thanksgiving as another oven for roasting vegetables and cooking sides.
