VonShef Electric 5 Tray Variable Temperature Food Dehydrator : Great for beef/deer jerky!

As soon as the package arrived i was ready to start using it. The first thing i did was dehydrated tomatoes from the garden. I set the temp control, placed the 1/4 in cut tomatoes on the rack, sprinkled them with salt, pepper and italian seasoning and parmesan cheese and start dehydratingi used the control guage to set them at the highest temp which is 135 degrees in order to see how hot the machine would get if it was going to get hot at all.At the three hour mark i checked the tomatoes, turned them over on the rack and seasoned that side as i had the other side. The toms were a little over half way dehydrated at that time. I left them in another two hours to finish them off and by that time they were perfecti paid full price for this product, and i would recommend it to anyone that wants to start dehydrating their foods. I have another one, not the same brand, and am much happier with this brand that was only half the price of the other one.

Bought this for my daughter for christmas. She needed it to make venison jerkey. She loved the gift but hasn’t had a chance to use it yet.

This is my review for vonshef electric 5 tray variable temperature food dehydrator. I am always looking for ways to eat healthier and i really enjoy munching on dried fruit, but many of the times they add sugar to it and that makes it not ad healthy as it could be.  i tested this one out by adding a bunch of mixed fruit – pineapples, kiwi, apples, bannanas, and so fourth. The machine itself worked good. I did have to rotate the trays once. So i am not so sure the air circulates as well as it could. Or maybe it was something i did wrong.  this machine comes with 5 trays and 3 different tempature settings 120 f, 140 f, and 160f. Machine also looks really nice.  they instruction book has some spelling errors which was kinda funny being that i spotted them as spelling is not my strong suit.

this dehydrator works well. I would like to state though that the directions for time are not at all accurate and in celsius. At least in my instruction manual they aren’t directions for american use. I chose to test this with apple rings and pineapple chunks. Apple rings take several hours and pineapple normally takes a good 12-18 hours to dehydrate at 135f. Longer if you want them condensed even smaller. (the manual stated something like 6-26 minutes, that just would never happen. ) i left it on overnight for the pineapple and it did well. Another thing to take note of is the on/off knob. The manual states that you push the button to turn it on.

VonShef Electric 5 Tray Variable Temperature Food Dehydrator : We have been on the lookout for a decently priced dehydrator to make some beef jerky and this product was just what we were looking for. Made some killer beef jerky the other day when the product arrived👍.

I bought this for some quick jerky, and i couldn’t be happier. It’s not a professional grade dehydrator, but you can’t beat the 25 dollar price tag for what it does.

Worked well, but i was not happy that it did not have a ‘on/off’ switch. I had to unplug and plug it in when i wanted to stop it. Otherwise it worked just fine.

Works great for dehydrating camping meals. The trays are a bit awkward. Use tupperware lids for smaller food and sauces.

Works great i’ve used it for 4 batches of beef jerky now and its worked great every time. The racks are easy to clean with a brush or rag and hot water.

Still trying to figure out tempatures to really crisp us fruits but good quality.

This is a good dehydrator, but the directions are somewhat complicated on what settings for what fruit/vegetable.

It works really good except the off switch does not turn it off i have to unplug it from the wall to get it to turn off and it came that way.

Great buy and fast shipping.

You’ll have to rotate trays occasionally. Other than that, it’s great.

Worked well to help me save some of my especially good harvest this year. Have done kale, cherry tomatoes, basil, and much more.

I have big family plans for this years gifts already give it a try and i love it ,can’t wait to make the grandkids lots of treats and to be putting all that good health good stuff for you in my home is awesome ,thank you so much.

The knob in the front doesn’t work, so we just plug/unplug it. We use this strictly for making chicken jerky for our dogs.

Does not maintain the temperature that it is set for adding to drying time.

Works great for drying herbs from our garden. Going to try bananas next for dog treats. I like that it has multiple temperature options.

Very easy to use and easy to clean. My dog loves the sweet potato treats i’ve been making.

Noisy & not as efficient (takes much longer, even if i increase temp above recommended settings) as my previous dehydrator. Would not buy this brand again.

J.A. Henckels 32621-450 Magnetic Knife Bar, 17.5″ : Magna Bar

It was about an inch to long for the space were i wanted to mount it but i took my dremel cut-off blade and cut off the extra and put it up.

I ordered this for the kitchen at our church since there was so little utensil storage. It looks good and certainly serves the purpose. Knives are kept sharp, out of little ones hands and attractively displayed.

Had a bit of frustration at getting it installed (i’m better at baking than at shop stuff) so had a neighbor come do it. Thanks to alton brown for showing me how to use one, i rushed right to my computer and ordered it. My knife drawer is now safe to use, and my knives on the bar will stay sharper longer. For symmetry, i had the bar placed on the wall above the knife drawer ;-).

First i have to take a moment to say why you want a magnetic knife holder and why you definitely don’t want a block. Dirt, moisture, and other undesirable elements creep into those cozy crevices in your knife block. This makes your knives unsanitary and can even damage the blades by promoting rust or other corrosion. In addition, as another reviewer so aptly pointed out, running your blades into and out of the block slots will invariably wear out the edge. With a magnetic strip, you can avoid all of the issues of the block while also showcasing the beautiful blades you love so much. A mag strip filled with glimmering steel is truly a sight to beholdnow, let’s talk about this strip specifically. First and foremost, the magnet strength is perfect. The knives are firmly held to the strip with zero chance of falling or coming off by accident. On the other hand, removing the blade requires minimal effort on your part.

  • A space-saving idea for a tiny apartment kitchen.
  • Knife Drawer Safe Again.
  • Great way to store knives

  • 17.5″ wide
  • Black finish
  • Wall-mounted magnetic knife bar
  • Material: Magnetic
  • No assembly required

I have a wall i wanted to hang my henckel knives from that is 171/2 inches from the cupboard to the doorway opening, so you can imagine how thrilled i was to find this after all my searching. When it came it was 18″ long, i luckily have a very handy husband that had the tools to cut it off & mount it for me. That said, i have had it up & in use for just a couple of weeks & it seems to be fine, even tho’ there are marks on it & my knives & it looks like it might be starting to rust.

Very strong and saved us so much space in our kitchen. It is also the best way to make your knives stay sharp and safe.

I live in an apartment with a tiny, galley-style kitchen. I have next to no counter space. I was fed up with having the small piece of counter next to my stove filled up with a spice rack and a knife rack and a utensils jar. I found the henckel’s magnabar here on amazon and gave it a try. Now i am not your miss fix-it type so maybe others would not have this problem, but i found it awkward to mount this thing on the wall next to my stove. The end caps of the bar, which you use to set the screws in, and the top and bottom edging of the bar are plastic and rather flimsy. By the time i got the bar up and stable, one edge of the magnabar had bent/come loose. After sinking the screws into my wall, i didn’t want to stop and return it, so i just put the “bad side” back toward the corner where it won’t be as noticeable. I do really enjoy having more counter space and all the knives lined up on the bar looks great, but i have to admit i expected a higher quality product from henckels.

I was using a utensil tray in a kitchen drawer. It’s so much more convenient — and sanitary– to have the knives hanging at your fingertips on the wall. Also better for keeping the blades sharp. The magnet in the bar is very strong. I wasn’t 100% thrilled with the mounting system, and the bar does tend to wobble a little if i pull a knife off too quickly. I think if you are able to install it into the side of a wooden cabinet (my original plan, but ended up not having quite enough room) you won’t have any problem with wiggling.

If you buy one, you need to buy two if you have long, heavy knives, two just works so much better than one for big knives. If your knives are under 10 inches, one works relly well.

Really liked this knife holder, but had to move it and broke an end cap that holds to the wall. . Trying to find another is not working out.

Such a better way to store knives. Also fits other miscellaneous metal items. Make sure to wash/dry good knives before hanging them up.

. To wish you had a better way of keeping your kitchen scalpels organized. Seriously, i thought this bar would be just the thing to help me organize my too-small kitchen which is always strewn with knives, bottle openers, spatulae, whisks, and other kitchen implements. I also wanted something to keep my sharp knives away from my hands so that i could reach for things on the counter without worrying about stabbing myself. This magnetic strip fits the bill perfectly. I was worried at first that it wouldn’t be a strong enough magnet to hold my chef’s knife, but it is. The knife is held very securely and forms a tight magnetic “seal” that breaks when you twist the knife away from it. If you bump the knife, it just rotates on the magnet – you’d have to be a real klutz to whack it hard enough to knock it off by accident. . I was also worried that the metal magnet would nick my knife edges. That’s not a problem as long as you’re careful how you put the knife on (back edge first). I recommend this product without any reservations.

Instructions are easy to follow when mounting the magna bar. The magnet is strong enough to hold heavy sissors along with your knives.

I tested some heavy magnetic items on a handful on these knife bars and this one held up the best.

I bought this knife holder for my man. It’s extremely convenient to have knifes hanging and accessible rather than floating around a drawer or a huge butcher block taking up counter space.

A little careful measuring and this knife rack installs easily and quickly. I like this design in particular because it conceals the screws which makes for a better look. I’m very pleased with the look and the convenience. No more knife blocks for me.

This is an ok product, i was expecting more from henckels. The strip is not robust and the magnets not so strong – for some that may be an advantage. I think this product should have been priced lower.

This is a great magnetic knife bar, easy to put up and looks great with the knives on it. Get rid of that knife block that takes up room on the counter.

I used this magnet for 7 years and found it to be an excellent home for my quality knives. Take note–it is a *strong* magnet with a powerful grip, and this is a double-edged knife (pardon the pun). On the one hand, blades are held firmly in place no matter their weight, and i never had issues with knives being accidentally knocked off the wall. As my magnet was mounted next to my refrigerator, this was important, and the magnet performed like a champ. On the other hand, it does require you to learn a technique to remove knives easily without marring the blades or pulling out the mounting hardware. As other reviewers have noted, the magnet mounts by placing two screws in drywall anchors in your wall, and the plastic end-caps then slide over the screws. Put in one screw, mount the cap, slide the magnet onto the cap, then slide the other cap on and you’re done. However, the smaller, cheaper drywall anchors included with this magnet are not that tough, and don’t handle routine pulling well. I lived in a house with cheap drywall and in seven years never had any problems with pulling out mounting hardware–the trick is learning the correct technique for detaching the knives. Instead of wrenching them from the magnet (which i agree, takes considerable force, especially with my chef’s knife and santoku), i would twist the edge away from the magnet while leaving the blade spine against the magnet.

I put this on the side of my cabinet above my sink and it looks great and is quite functional. It keeps my knives clean and sharp, and looks really sleek. I was unable to find anything else that looked good which was short enough for the side of an upper cabinet.

The first mailing had parts missing, but the second mailing had all the parts and installation was easy.

With the plastic end caps on this magnetic knife holder it is longer than 12 inches – which was too long for my cabinet. I hung it at an angle to make it fit and it works. Thanks to other reviews concerning the difficulty hanging it – i did not have a problem once i worked it out. The magnets are very strong and hold my knives, a small pair of scissors and a bottle opener. I love how handy it makes getting things i need frequently rather than rummaging through drawers.

BELLA (14124) 6.5 Quart Programmable Searing Slow Cooker with Locking Lid, Chrome : A Working Mom’s Dream

This is not my first slow cooker, nor is it the first of this size. However i do have to say it is the first programmable one i have owned and i like it. Two unique features:this slow cooker has two unique features. Locking lid: this is handy if you move your slow cooker anywhere and i think most of us do. I can see us putting this in the back of the car to take to many get togethers. Due to this lid we will carry it with less worry. An aluminum pot that you can use to brown your meat in and that is also your slow cooker insert. To be honest we did not use the feature (to brown your meat on the stovetop), but i have to say the metal insert is light and easy to carry, as well as to clean and handle. Compared to most ceramic inserts when they are this size they are hard to handle due to the weight. This one was light and very non-stick. It also has nice rubberized bumpy handles.

My previous slow cooker as an old rival that i have had for at least 20 years and i didn’t expect much to change, but it really has with this one. First of all, i love that you can sear right in the removable dish. This keeps you from messing up another pan and also keeps all the delicious seared flavor runoff in the pot. It worked perfectly on my electric stove. The removable dish has rubber on each end making it easy to get from the stove to the slow cooker shell without burning your hands. There are also rubber covered handles on the outside unit if you needed to move the whole cooker. The lid to this cooker is attached in the back (can be removed with the press of a button) so when you lift the steaming lid you just need to tilt it back and it just stays up out of the way. There is one little hole on the lid for steam to escape and the lid has rubber around the rim and it keeps all the heat inside and also has a latch securely fastens it down. With that being said, this little baby cooked our roast in about 3. To where my other slow cooker took over 6 hours. It has preset programs to what type of dish you are cooking and you just hit start and not worry about it. I was really shocked at how efficient it was and how it didn’t heat the house up while cooking (a nice thing in a texas summer). Clean up was easy and i am very pleased with this slow cooker.

The best roast i have ever made.

  • Love the item, not the company!
  • Great!
  • Great slow cooker! A great value, and a big step up from the tried-and-true Crock Pot, especially for someone who uses it a lot!

BELLA (14124) 6.5 Quart Programmable Searing Slow Cooker with Locking Lid, Chrome

    by entering your model number.
  • Sear meats first on the stovetop, then finish cooking in the slow cooker for juicy results
  • Programmable setting with 8 pre-set cooking times and temperatures to cook beef, chicken, pork and stew

  • 6.5QT Capacity – cooks up to a 6lbs roast caters to up to 7+ people
  • Easy to use and clean thanks to dishwasher safe cooking pot and tempered glass locking lid

Love the light weight insert pot. It is great for browning/searing. The programming is easy to use and very helpful.

This is a nice size slow cooker that is programmable. The inner food container can go on the stovetop for searing. The finish is a nice aluminum that looks modern and doesn’t get fingerprint smudges all over it. The first time you use it, you have to put water in it and let it go for a while. This helps get rid of the new smell and wasn’t too big of an issue. Here’s some of what i like, and don’t like, about it:pros-it’s oval, and larger cuts of meat fit better in an oval shape in my experience. 5 quarts – which is more than enough to handle all my needs. -it’s pretty-it’s programmable- you can set it for the type of meat you are cooking, or for the time you want it to cook.

The searing pot is excellent. The lid has to be removed to serve out of it.

Easy to use, easy to clean, easy to carry. As others have noted, you want to wear a mitt when lifting the lid, or you might get scalded by the steam. The inner pot handles and the exterior can get pretty hot, so use caution. This being said, i love my bella slow cooker. I love that i can sear meat or sautee veggies without using another pot, and, more importantly, without leaving tasty browned bits out. I love coming back home to a delicious smell. I love how it heats uniformly with no scorching. I love that i can put the pot in the dishwasher.

It is a little hard to remove and replace the insert pan. And when you open the lid you have to be careful so you don’t “steam” yourself. When the lid is all the way open there is a little bit of a balance problem when the pan is empty. I will keep this unit as it cooked perfectly, the pan can be used on the stove for browning first and it is really easy to clean.

Light and easy clean up is so easy.

I got a slow cooker as a wedding gift 25 years ago. It sat in a cabinet for years and i finally gave it away. I had been seeing so many delicious slow cooker recipes all over the place, so i did some research and, thanks to many awesome reviewers, i got this bad boy. The searing feature is the best.

5-qt slow cooker is big enough to feed a small army or, as last used, cook a whole mess of ribs (5 lbs) for my husband. It cooks beautifully, and cleanup of the nonstick pot is a breeze, even after cooking sugary ribs. Both inside and outside of the inner pot are nonstick. I like that the pot can be removed for searing. Yes, you still have to use the stove top to sear, but you don’t have to dirty an extra pan to do it – just sear and then put the pot back into the cooker. The preset modes (beef, pork chicken, stew, high and low) are nice but setting the heat mode and timer are easy if you know how long and at what heat setting you want to cook. The preset modes help if you really don’t know how long you should cook that stew on low. I like that after the timing period is over, the cooker goes to “warm” mode. I love that the lid locks in place but detaches completely.

This bella programmable slow cooker with searing pot is an amazingly attractive, lightweight and sturdy slow cooker. Before, i wouldn’t think of bringing hot dishes to potlucks. My old cooker was too heavy and had no way to lock the lid in place, which i felt made it dangerous for me to transport while full. I was worried about the ceramic insert falling out/breaking (it eventually cracked). In contrast, this ultra-light nonstick (ceramic-coated) aluminum insert has silicon grip handles in addition to handles on the unit itself. The lid locks into place with a snug seal. *you might need to use two hands to press the front lid button. It definitely takes two hands to squeeze open the latch that removes the back part of the lid. This piece must come off in order to remove the aluminum insert resting beneath its two projections. This process is not a problem for the average user.

Company very nice to work with.

I’ve not actually used the pan/insert on the stove to seer anything, but it is nice having the option should i feel it necessary. So far, after a few months of use several times a week, i haven’t had any issues. The pan/insert has remained resistant to sticking short of a couple of scrapes in the coating that were put with an unfortunate knife event by a family member not used to these kinds of coatings.

The ring absorbs odors, and i find it off-putting. Also, to help anyone else not make the same mistake, it is a metal non-stick. This means it’s light and easy to carry and store. But, it also means if you worry about teflon-type coatings, it’s a poor choice.

This is quite a slow cooker. We have an old crock pot which has outlived it’s usefulness and we are moving on and moving up to the bella 14124 programmable slow cooker with searing pot. Every meal we have had so far has turned out magnifico. We wife claims this is fancier and easier to cook then her old crock pot. It is easier to clean and operate.

I bought it to replace an old crock pot (you know the vintage style one with the separate griddle tray) that i thought i loved until i got this. This is so convenient with the different settings. I never worry about leaving anything in there too long, nothing has burnt. I now make my stock and bone broth in this instead of the stove top because there isn’t as much reduction and i can trust leaving it alone all day or overnight. I also like that it switches it to ‘warm’ afterwards so you don’t have to worry about your food getting cold and becoming unsafe to eat. The only consideration is the lid gasket is very hard to get clean. There have been several times i thought i’d washed it throughly, only to still smell the previous meal on it later.

I use a crock pot a minimum of once per week. This slow cooker will be the fourth slow cooker in my cabinet. Tonight i cooked pulled pork with this slow cooker. It has a lid that locks into place. The timer and keep warm feature is great. You can enter the type of meat cooked and it gives you a suggested amount of cooking time. There are instructions to show you how to program your slow cooker. You can remove the aluminum pot from the slow cooker and use the pot to sear meats on the stove top. This cuts down on the number of dishes to be washed.

Love it, mine was very old and gave up, that one is so much better.

I was extremely happy with this crockpot at first. I love that the lid locks and is also removable. Being able to use the internal crock on the stove top is an incredible feature- beef stew has become exponentially more efficient. It’s also easy to clean and isn’t heavy like most crockpots i’ve had. Plus, the timer feature is really convenient. No more worrying about rushing home from work so my dish won’t be overcooked. One glaring negative for me is the fact that i’ve only owned this crockpot for four months and the coating on the internal crock is already chipping off. This is a deal breaker for me. I’m not going to chance having flecks of chemical coating breaking off into the food i serve my family. It’s too late to return this so i’m contacting bella myself to see how they plan to resolve this.

If you’ve still got an old crock pot from the 1990s, this bella slow cooker will be a real step up. It is programmable for a wide range of cooking times, stylish looking and easy to use. I’ve had good luck with stews, roasts and pulled pork. While there are some minor design issues as mentioned in other reviews (don’t sear on an open flame, like a gas stove), i’ve really enjoyed the ease and convenience that this cooker offers.

Smith’s DFPK Diamond Precision Knife Sharpening Kit – Love having sharp knives!

The kit itself is great if you know how to use it without instructions. The instructions of this kit are not very well explained especially if you have not used something like this in the past. The company needs to have better instructions for this product. Other than that the kit is great everything seems to be sturdy and will last a long time. You will have to buy more honing. I highly recommend this to people who know exactly what they are doing. In conclusion i recommend this to people that need a knife sharpening kit.

I’ve been looking for years to find an easy fast way to get great edges on my kitchen knives. In 20 minutes i am able to put razor sharp edges on 4 of my most used kitchen knives. One a 10′ henckel chef’s knife was always a problem getting a good edge. This system puts an edge that will cut paper thin tomato slices. Take a few tries to figure out, good to watch a tutorial if you can find one online.

I wanted to try something that was different than hand honing – hoping to get a better edge in a shorter time. This little kit totally impressed me with it’s simplicity and effectiveness. I had a great edge on several knives in a matter of minutes.

I’ve never been able to get a knife this sharp with any other sharpener. The first time takes a while but once you get the angle right, you can get the edge back very quickly.

This is a decent product considering the price. The stones are of good quality, but the plastic blocks they are attached to can split and break if you tighten the guide rods even snuggly. The guide offers two angles to choose from, but each side can grind slightly different angles. This is due to the clamping mechanism which cannot account for variations in blade thickness. The red plastic screw covers on the guide can also pop off quite easily. The guided serration sharpener is absolute garbage, but the handheld pen will do the trick. This will sharpen your knives to a very nice edge, comes with a nice carrying case, and is generally a good value for the low price. Do not expect this to be an impecable product. Depending on the level of hone you require, i would recommend getting a nice 1600/4000 grit whetstone as this tops out at around 800.

If you are looking for a sharpening kit that is easy to use, this is it.

  • Stones are good vice not so much
  • Perfect for those who aren’t professional knife sharpeners
  • Love having sharp knives!

I used to sharpen my knives with a pair of arkansas stones that i bought in 1986. While it’s an effective and time honored way, it requires you to be very steady, and keep the blade to stone angle consistent for many passes. Eventually, between impatience and arthritis, i stopped trying, and looked at alternatives. Nothing satisfied until i got this set-up. The rod and clamp system assures accuracy and repeatability, so as you get all your knife edges done, you will spend less time tuning them up after the first couple of go-rounds. Some people prefer just some water, or going dry. You don’t need a lot of pressure. Diamond cuts quite well, so use repetition rather than brute force, and go from coarse to fine to arkansas, and you can end up with blades that can shave the hair off your arm. Finally, yes there is some time involved, so listen to some good music, or watch jeopardy, (you get the idea) and you’ll have a great edge before you know it.

Finally, i am able to put a good, consistent, edge on my knives. My knives have never been so sharp. Pros:sharpens with a consistent angle. Cons:the serration sharpening stone seems useless, at least with the serrations on my knives. The carry bag ripped so i contacted smith.

This is a great, easy to use sharpener. I have used a couple of other sharpeners on the market but this is the best by far. You can put a razor edge on any knife and i mean a razor edge. I had one knife that i had sharpened, used and cut myself with and didn’t know until i saw the blood. The guide and clamp are easy to use and instructions are very clear. If you never sharpened a knife in your life this kit is fool proof. You won’t regret buying this kit.

This is a simple yet effective way to sharpen most any knife, particularly difficult steels like 440c and d2. The diamond hones rapidly remove stock, and by switching sides after a few strokes close to the end of the sharpening process, a wire edge can be avoided. The jig, which holds the blade and guides the stones, has been redesigned with pivoting wings which are more resistant to breakage than the older style from smith’s. Smith’s also furnishes a nylon bag and a nifty round hook and serration sharpener with the newer set. I like that smith’s has actually made meaningful improvements to an already fine product. I can also vouch for the responsiveness of smith’s customer service.

This sharpening kit is excellent. I had reviewed several kits and sharpening stones before purchasing this kit. I am very pleased with the quality. I have used it to sharpen my kitchen knives as well as my pocket knives. I have a fairly nice set of kitchen knives and was hesitant to use just any product. The versatility of the product is nice. You can simply hone an edge fairly quickly or basically start from scratch with a dull blade. The instructions are straight forward. The guide system makes it idiot proof, which is a good thing for me.

I received the sharpener and before i could use it i had to glue the arkansas stone back to the holder. Other than that the other stone are secure and sharpen all my blades nicely. The holder is pretty sturdy but be sure not to over tighten. I like the fact that you have the two options for different angles. The case is is not good at all. The first time i put the stones in the case the strap ripped and the bottom section ripped. Overall the kit itself does a very good job putting an edge on the blade but the case leaves alot to be desired.

My husband saw someone else use one of these and decided it looked like something he could do. The only thing he had ever used to sharpen a knife was one of those very inexpensive electric sharpeners. When i bought new, more expensive knives a couple of years ago, i told him they were not to be sharpened (ruined) on the electric sharpener. The only option was to take them somewhere and pay to get them sharpened, which is not convenient, and kind of expensive. This set works really well to keep a nice edge on your knives, it’s easy to use, and you can buy it for what you would pay to get all your knives sharpened professionally once. Also, it doesn’t take that long to sharpen knives. My husband gets it out every 6 or 8 weeks, and sits down and sharpens all of my knives at once. He’s usually done in 30 minutes or less. It took him more time when he first started, but it didn’t take him long to get it down to a science. There is nothing like having sharp knives, and surprisingly enough, when you are used to keeping them sharp, you will find that you are actually less likely to cut yourself.

He has sharpened everything from pocket knives to our biggest butcher knife. He has taken knives that are extremely dull with small chips and within a matter of minutes they were razor sharp with this kit.

This sharpener will not disappoint. It does it’s job better than any knife sharpener i have ever seen. Turn your knives into razors with this bad boy.

I started with an old chicago cutlery chefs knife that i’d given up on. After running it through the 3 cycles it was restored to good use. You can buy cheaper and easier to use sharpeners but none that will give you a perfect result every time. This system holds the blade at a constant angle eliminating human error. There is a setting for kitchen knives and one for outdoor/hunting knives. It even has a stone for serrated edges. Now i use it on my expensive japanese knives and they stay razor sharp.

Stones snug and secure in mount and clamps down very well on knives. Only wish they supplied a larger bottle of honing fluid as i tend to use quite a bit to keep stones from clogging.

The stones work well, but the quality of the vise is subpar compared to older smith’s kits. The ‘small blade’ notch in the vise doesn’t grip thin narrow blades well (think de-boning knife) and the plastic knobs self destructed after about 7 months of regular use on my kitchen and pocket knives. I ended up using the vise from my old smith’s kit and these stones.

Not the best overall sharpener, but it is very good for knives that other sharpeners dont work on. For incredibly hard steel, this works the best as the edge is hit perfectly every time, though it will never give a sharper edge than the work sharp or the sharpmaker.

It has its strengths and weaknesses. The stones are amazing and its a great product for the money. The clamp needs to be redesigned. The plastic rod guides that fold in do not allow for the same angle on each side of the blade. Its amazing at putting a new edge on a worn out knife. When the guide rods screw in to the bases they don’t align parallel with the stone and you have to pull on them slightly to align. But for the price of a single lansky replacement stone its hard to argue. If you’re super particular about your knife edge go with the highest priced lansky.

This is a great sharping system. I have already sharpened 2 knives, and they were completed in minutes. Straight forward and easy to use.

I love this system, sharpens knives well. However the clamp is not easy to adjust and is not friendly towards tapered knife spines and kitchen knives. Even without those factors against the clamps, they have a small clamping area and the guide backing for the clamp is shallow making it harder to place the spine of the knife and adjust the clamp. I was able to sharpen my kitchen knives with it, but it was not an easy task. Also the knife clamp system rotates and any knife with any weight will make the knife fall into a vertical position. This makes the sharpening of a knife a bit tedious since you need to hold the knife brace in a horizontal position to sharpen knives. Is this a deal breaker, not in my opinion. The oil cleaning solution is not all that good, and the bottle is extremely hard to squeeze in a controlled manner. But it this system sharpens the dullest of knives nicely.

At first, i was skeptical of the kit (sounded too easy to use). This really is easy to use, and gives very good results. I’ve sharpened old knives i had given up on, and sharpened both my kitchen and my mom’s kitchen knives. I’m very happy with the results, and you can do this while watching a tv show. The guide rods and angle slots make this a goof proof.

A great put together little kit that comes in very handy with it being a kit so small i found it to be very useful.

While this isn’s a kit for professional knife sharpeners it will without a doubt put a very nice (and polished) edge on any knife you have no matter how dull it is. The coursest stone is very course. While it’s not a file, it will shape an edge on pretty much anything. The medium stone will probably get the most use, you can usually start here if you’re just sharpening. The polishing/finishing stone is great if you want a pretty finish or need that fine razor edge. The kit includes 4 handles, one for each stone so that you can set everything up and lay it out all in front of you. The knife holder (butterfly looking thing) holds very tight with no issue if you adjust the three screws correctly which is not hard. While it mostly likely won’t scratch your blade, if you’re sharpening a very nice knife or one with a finish i would recomment putting a double folded paper towel between the blade and the holder. With the tools included, a tiny bit of patience, and a steady hand you can put a razor edge on anything.

This is a great product so far. I received it a couple of days ago, earlier than expected. I opened it and examined everything and it all looked good with one exception. The rods that attach to the stones had rust on them, which really is not a big deal to me. Last night, i sat outside, smoked a rad cigar and tested this kit out. I really put it to the test. I have a realllllly old buck knife that my dad gave me, the edge might as well have been blunt, it was weak. As of now it has a razor sharp edge on it. I followed the instructions provided with this kit, started with the course stone and went all the way down the line. I also used an old leather belt to polish it up after i was finished, prior to that it was pretty damn sharp but afterwards it was perfect.

The case that comes with it is a little wonky, but it works pretty well after you wear the elastic bands in. I wasn’t that sure about the plastic guides, but they’re working pretty well so far. The instructions that come with it are well written and thought out. I wouldn’t hesitate to suggest this product.

Takes a bit of time to set up and i find it a little clumsy but that could be me. I like smiths and i believe this to be of good quality.

My husband is the one who ordered this and he is a happy camper with how it works. It is small enough to store in the cabinet without taking up a lot of space. It was explained well in the instructions how to use it. Now our old knives we’ve had for over 20 years are sharper than the new one i just purchased in replacement of a lost one. He’s happy, and i have sharp knives.

Stones are good and well suited to supper hard damascus forged steel blade. I like the combination of diamond and arkansas stones to get a great edge. It sharpens my regular wustoff blade very quickly and easily but my hands cramp up terribly trying to hold it and the vise is not suited be held in a bench vise or used on a table. The knife vise is terrible and almost useless on large blades other than it does assure you hold the correct stone/blade angle. The ergonomics of holding the vise and knife suck. I wish i could have tried it first i would have bought a better kit. Right now i’m inclined toward an edge pro which my brother has and i’ve used but i think it is too expensive for what you get. There must be something between these two systems that is more reasonably price and combines the best of both.

This sharpening kit works great on most knives up to my 9 inch blades. Leaves a very nice edge along the blade. I will buy the stand adapter to make sharpening much faster and easier.

I have never sharpened a knife in my life, but after reading the intructions this was so easy. Put a razor edge on an old beat up kitchen knife and my wife was very please. She even let me sharpen her favorite knife. Very easy and works flawless.

Everything fits in handy pouch. In truth most people wont really need more than two of the stones included with the set. But it’s simple to use and works well for my pocket knives. Within in minutes, anyone can achieve a razor’s edge. I start with this set, then finish with arkansas black which is a finer stone that what’s included in the kit, an arkansas soft.

I have a set of high-end knives that were getting a little dull, so i decided to give this set a try. Since it has 2 set angles it will take a while to get your knives to match this new angle exactly. Once you use the rough diamond to do that, the rest is quite quick. Now i just sharpen my knives for about 1-2 minutes each every 4 months and they stay sharper than they were when i bought them. I also sharpen my pocket knife and whenever i let someone use it they comment on how sharp it is. It’s on of those things that you don’t realize until you have experienced it. I’ll never be able to go back to a semi-sharp knife again.

After several months of use, i have found that i can get a better edge just using the stones without the guide. Unfortunately, it seems like it will last a long time as i now wish i had purchased the set with the longer stones.

The quality of this kit does not seem all that great, but it does a pretty good job sharpening knives. It is a slow process if you have a lot of sharpening to do. Call me lazy or impatient, but i got tired of it and bought the work sharp knife and tool sharpener.

I sharpened a few dull knives, including a kitchen knife, to be very sharp. After practicing a few times on my old knife, i was able to sharpen few more knifes without much problems. Depending on the metal and initial sharpness, i started out with either the yellow color stick or orange color stick, then to the red one (fine arkansas stone). Sometimes, it takes a few cycles to get to the desired sharpness but nonetheless, i was able to sharpened them all. Only problem with this product is that if you have really thick (over 5mm) or narrow (less than 2cm), it doesn’t work quite well. Moreover, if you have re-curve blades, this won’t work either. Another thing i notice is that if you don’t apply the same pressure for each stroke, it can leave uneven marks on the edge. I wish the product came with a finer finishing stick (perhaps 1500 grit stone) to smooth out the edges better and some kind of protection on its jaw to protect the knives from getting bite marks. In overall, i am satisfied with the product for its ability to sharpen the most of blade types.

Item was exactly as described and came in the retail packaging. Seems to work as described, have only used it once due to i lost 🙁 the knife i bought it for before it arrived. The one time i used it the knife was sharper than when i started.

I have been sharpening knives with combination of by hand and using one of the sharpeners where you swipe the knife through them. In general, the results have been pretty unsatisfying. I was not sure about this kit, but i really wanted to get some sharper knives. This kit did a great job on the knives for non-serrated blades. The process is that you attach the clamp to the back of the blade and screw one of the hooked rods into the end of the sharpening stone. Then the hooked rod holds the angle of the sharpening stone and blade constant as you sharpen the knife. I actually found sharpening to go pretty quickly and by holding the angle constant, the knives ended up quite sharp. The stones are about as small as they could be and sharpen the knives, but they are adequate. The kit does nothing to make sharpening safe, so you are still responsible for not getting cut. I played around with sharpening some serrated knives, but this was going to be pretty difficult as the angles of the clamp and sharpener don’t always work out so you have to play around to get the angles right.

I purchased this as a gift for my boyfriend, who loves knives. I know nothing about them, so i stressed over how to purchase the correct kind of kit for his needs. The reviews on this set were great and i went for it. He loves that the set sharpens all kinds of knives, even serrated blades. He has had a great time sharpening his whole collection and has told me several times it is super easy to use.

They shipped item very quickly to afghanistan. This sharpening kit worked great. I used this product immediately on a couple of knives i brought with me here and it was great. It sharpened them very quickly and was very easy to use. I had no problems with using it and for being made in china it was great. Almost everything is made in china now so you cant get too picky.

I was told about this from a friend, and he showed me his, i liked it so i bought my own. I use this all the time when i feel i need to sharpen one of my knives, and i’ve even had friends ask me to sharpen theirs. This would make a great gift for someone who loves knives.

A christmas gift for dh – and i received the benefit. He sharpened every knife (which could be sharpened) in my kitchen and they have the sharpest edge they have ever had. Much better edge than typical electric sharpeners can give.

I have had the ‘other brand’ for a long time and just bought the smith’s but so far i like the smiths better. The clamp on the smith’s holds smaller knives better and the wider stones work great.

If used properly will put a fine, if not razor edge on all your blades. Comes with all you need and is easy to carry and store. If you get this, i suggest you watch the you-tube video on how to use it.

KRUPS 404-70 Open Master Can Opener – Amazing

This is, by any measure, the best can opener made (that was made) in the world. Because it has the only sanitary design. The blade doesn’t cut through the can into the food. It lifts the top off the sides of the can. This eliminates or greatly reduces the growth of bacteria on the cutting edge. It also eliminates the dropping of small dangerous metallic particles into the food. Yet, amazingly, no one makes this sort of design anymore. Krups walked away from this. The design is so good that it is a matter of time before someone clones this in china and starts selling a cost effective replacement.

It came promptly (within 5 days) and it works. It is certainly expensive for a can opener but it makes life much easier. I couldn’t bear to pay the price for a new one.

My wife is a stroke survivor and it is not easy to just an electric can opener with one hand, (try it). Not only is this easy to use but the fact that it does not cut the can top but rather unseals it means no sharp edges to worry about. I can’t believe krups has discontinued it. The seller was excellent too. Great packaging and delivered ahead of schedule. Here are the specifications for the KRUPS 404-70 Open Master Can Opener:

  • Make sure this fits
    by entering your model number.
  • Patented bladeless design opens cans without cutting the lid
  • Ergonomically focused
  • Measures 5-1/2 by 6-1/2 by 2-1/4 inches (height by length by depth)
  • Safe and easy to use
  • Limited one-year warranty

This has been a very good can opener i have had this for least 5 years. I think this is a good product which i had receieved as a gift and in turn given as gifts to my family and friends. It also allows your children the opportunity to help out in the kitchen without worring about sharp lids. I also like the fact that you can place the lid back on the can; perfect fit.

This thing opens cans like no other can opener. It leaves unsharp edges and a close fitting top. Instead of trash, you get a reuseable container. Then you have an nice, ergonomic gadget with a swell motor which begins to not work as well as it did over the past four or more years. All it needs is that little thing you put over the lip of the can. Daddy could fix this if he could get the part, but he can’t. I’ve bought my second krups model 404. Probably i’ll buy a couple more before i die.

Reviews from purchasers :

  • Krups 404-70 – the best can opener in the world (really)
  • GREAT can opener
  • Wonderful! Oops, no spare parts.

The krups 404-70 open master can opener is the best ever, my wife has rheumatoid arthritis and loves this appliance, we would like to purchase 2 more but cannot find it anyplace. If it is still available, please let us know. A satisfied customerharold goldstein.

The unit provides a safe and easy method of opening cans. No more cut fingers as you try to dig out the top after using an old style opener. I am on my second krups unit due to a worn cutter after three years of use. Krups does not supply replacement parts for this item and, in my opinion, it is the only short coming of the unit.

This is the first can opener that i’v had that worked this easily. It is so easy to use, that i suspect that many have the same problem my wife had — its so easy to use that they couldnt believe it and tried to make it more difficult like all of the bladed openers. Just set it on top of the can and push the button and let it do all the work.

Purchased because my wife and i both have arthritis and have difficulty using hand openers. The krups is a little tricky to use but is very efficient and safe. Love not having the sharp edges as with other openers.

I have owned this product before. It lasted for quite a few years before failing. The one i ordered from amazon was an identical replacement. It is working satisfactoraly.

This review relates my experience, and anyone who tries the repair described below does so at their own risk. After about 4 years, our open master quit opening cans. The motor was ok, but the can wasn’t open after running around it. Being recently retired, i thought i’d give repair a shot. First i brushed out the opener head with a stiff brush and got out a lot of black junk. Then, i hit the bottom of the vertical wheel with some white lithium grease (in a pressure can with a tube attached). Black junk everywhere, but kept mopping up with a paper towel and blowing stuff out until it seemed clean. At this point the vertical rotor seemed to move into the case about 50% more than previously. The little horizontal rotor at the bottom of the mechanism seemed to be frozen. I rotated it with a tool and gave it a shot of lithium from below.

-to find i cannot simply order another-lasted for over 15 years but is beginning to slow down a bit.

We have had the krups 404 for maybe 3 years now and it has been a wonderful addition to our kitchen. It is so much of an improvement over traditional can openers. The fact that no shavings get into the can that you are opening is a tremendous advantage. Also no sharp lids to cut your hand or fingers with. Since there are so many variations of cans to be opened we find an occasional one that needs a little encouragement (not at all unlike the previous top cutter one we had)and we use the hand opener once in awhile. Mostly because it probably needed more cleaning of the cutting wheels, which i finally undertook to do. It was full of metal shavings which were clogging up the mechanism and it can only get worse. I used a chemical agent to spray and remove them. Anything that is used to do this procedure is done at your own risk.

Backed by krups great engineering and workmanship. Opens cans quick and is light and easy to use right out of the box. No sharp edgesonly drawback to me is that it’s not cordless.

I wanted to express a few words about this can opener. With my 3 1/2 year old twin grandsons living near by it’s important to have a can opener that doesn’t leave any sharp edges (as they like to help their oma cook). I have had mine almost 3 years and have never had a problem with it. I wouldn’t hesitate in buying another one for myself or as a gift. There is one comment i’d really like to make-can openers were not invented or made to open garbage cans.

Before purchasing this product,i carefully reviewed every one of amazon’s customer reviews – pro & con. I even brought my own can of chili with me to the retailer for an instore demonstration, as well as a magnifying glass to check for metal filings. The krups passed all the tests and received the stores highest endorsement as well. With regard to the reviewers who complained of finding metal shavings in food after using the krups may i suggest they may be from the ax they had to grind about being too dumb to operate this great appliance.

We have owned our krups 404-70 for over twelve years and absolutely love it. As mentioned in some reviews, it took a few tries to get the hang of getting the opener to connect to the can, but other than that, this opener is flawless. So easy to clean, doesn’t take up much space, leaves you with cans and lids that do not have sharp edges, leaves you with a can that will not scrunch when you are holding it. I dread the day when our opener quits because i cannot find a new one, esp. At the great low price of less than $30 that we paid for this one. Krups or leapy lee — are you listening?. Please bring this opener back — there are several customers out here who need, want, or will need another.

This opener is much more sanitary than the cutting wheel type. I am about to replace mine again, for the second time, even though i find three deficiencies:1. It doesn’t last more than about two years. It requires careful ‘jiggling’ to engage the opener with the can. There are some few types of cans that it fails to open. But health considerations win out.

This is the 2nd one of this style i have had. What i especially like is it opens the can around the outside edge, so it doesn’t fall inside the can and the opener doesn’t get dirty. Just takes a little practice to get it lined up right.

I have owned one of the krups openmaster for more than 15 years and it still opens cans like the day it was purchased not to mention it still looks like new. I had bought one for my mother around the same time and the motor recently quit working and i cannot find another one to purchase. I would love to purchase another new one for her as she is 79 years old and she thought that if she could get one more krups that it would last her the rest of her life. I have bought at least 20 of these for gifts for family members and friends and they all say the same thing ‘i’m not giving up my krups’ i would easily pay twice the price they list for to own another to have a spare.

Can’t find this new anymore. Didn’t know you could get them fixed. So, bought this refurbished one and it works great.Hope it lasts as long as the first one.
