Been thinking about this machine for over a year and finally found an excuse to get one, wifes birthdaymy package was literally destroyed and patched by the seller before i got it, peices missing (sample pack) but the machine was intact. Stay far away from platinumbuys (plus they are $10 than from sodastream directly. Which wasn’t available when i got mine of course). The sodastream machine does work as intended but there are a few design points i found annoying and potentially failure points for some users. The bad1) the bottle-to-mount threads on the machine aren’t visible when you ‘install’ the empty bottle to the machine and it’s not hard to cross-thread. With plastic on plastic this will wear and break if you aren’t careful, or leak. All at the same time in a cold explosion of sweet carbonated mess. 2) the co2 infusion button/metering process is a little weird, ‘press in short bursts until it makes a funky noise’ lol.
Comes with 3 carbonator bottles, so no need to buy more. I would recommend buying and using trials of syrup before buying big things of them, as some don’t taste as you’d expect (unit comes with 6 trial flavors x2). Not very loud, just a medium buzzing sound when adding the carbonation. My chihuahua doesn’t like that, but she doesn’t like any noise :)i’ve seen most recommend 3 or 4 burps per drink, but i do 5-6, as i enjoy my drinks very fizzy.

Love the sodastream, don’t much care for the ‘sampler. ‘. The dynamo lx is large enough to hold the 130l co2 cartridges, and that’s a good thing. It’s well engineered, but the plastic is a tad thin for my taste. The idea behind sodastream is nice, and the price here is good, but the sampler was disappointing. First off, i don’t drink diet sodas. Second, i don’t care for acesulfame potassium. It’s got a weird taste that’s kind of bitter, and kind of cloyingly sweet. Of the three non-diet mixes (instead of 12 different flavors, it was two boxes of the same six flavors), the rootbeer was quite nice (except for the acesufame k), and i would have loved it in sugar-only.
Potential challenges for the disabled. In the past year, i’ve purchased three sodastreams – this one, the genesis, and the crystal. My experiences with each machine vary based on limited dexterity. The dynamo presents challenges when screwing in the bottle and removing it after carbonation. I found the process quite awkward compared to the other two models. I would not recommend the crystal if you are limited in range of motion, simply because the glass bottles could prove hazardous. I dropped several on the counter during removal, and i worried about dropping them on the floor. Also, the crystal requires that you pull a lock switch before carbonating, and i found this process to be quite difficult. Overall, the genesis is the best machine for a person with limited range of motion. The process of screwing and unscrewing the bottles is simply and unobstructed (as opposed to the dynamo – i felt like components of the machine were getting in the way of my hands).
This system may save you some money if you’re willing to use the flavors that include splenda, but we’re not. If you go with sparkling naturals (sweetened with cane sugar, with no splenda or stevia), you’ll pay $10 to make 6 liters of soda. That’s over $3 for two liters.I can buy a bottle of generic soda for 89 cents. The advantage to us is that we don’t have to haul cases of soda to the house. The machine is very easy to use. The disadvantage is we can’t recycle the syrup containers in this town, but we can recycle soda containers. I plan on buying concentrated cherry and blueberry juices, and carbonating them. . If the syrups became more affordable.
Sodastream Dynamo LX Home Soda Maker Deluxe Mega Pack : Awesome for fresh carbonated water. I love the product it however it does not seem to carbonate as well as other drinks taste when they come right out of the can you also have to make sure you’re drinking this over ice or have the water already chilled. We tried a few of the syrups that came with the sample pack we think they’re all horrible. We are using this for fresh all natural carbonated water with fruit such as lemon lime cucumber strawberry raspberry blueberry. I’m not sure about the other models but this model is a little hard to get the bottle set up in so i would possibly look at a different model that doesn’t require you to screw the bottle in the way this one does. In the picture i put the coffee in there so that you could see the size it is pretty tall.
I have basically cut out almost all soda in my house. One of my favorite things is to carbonate water and then add the correct portion of limeade or lemonade (pre melted of course) for a carbonated kick. Never premix and then carbonate or it will make a huge mess. You need to carbonate just the water and then add the syrup after (it is in the instructions as well – believe them). Add the syrup slowly and near the sink as it occionally will fizz over especially if you add too fast. I keep extra 1 litre bottles with plain water in the fridge and then carbonate as i go through then. The carbonation will last a long time (weeks) in the special bottles. I use a small bottle to hold the extra limeade syrup from the concentrate can in the fridge.
This unit uses the larger co2 cylinder which lets you carbonate up to 133 liters of soda (works with the smaller ones too), and it comes with the big one, 2 1-liter bottles, and a half-liter bottle. This bundle makes this the best overall value if you’re looking for a sodastream. Yea it’s kind of ugly, and it’s tall, so consider that if you’re going to put it on a countertop with cabinets overhead. As far as the soda goes, it’s ok. I using it to make soda’s with unique flavors, not to replace coke or pepsi (the cost savings just isn’t there, and the sodastream cola flavors, though good, are not as good as a leading brand name product). Admittedly, this probably has a lot to do with your water quality. I found that using a pur or brita (or similar) filter a must to make good tasting soda. Sodastream needs to make sampler packs of all of their flavors, not just the common ones, otherwise you’re taking a $10 gamble buying a new flavor.
Making your own soda is a lot of fun and the drinks taste great. There are so many combinations that you can try. But with most home soda products, sometimes when you put in the mix, it causes the carbonated water to over fizz, and the soda can become flat in a few days. You have to learn how to put in the mix very quickly. But other than that, the dynamo is a great product.
Never thought i’d love this. Saw this at a friends and thought i’d try it. Now the whole family is making seltzer water. We just drink in plain or add a lemon or lime. The packets of flavors did not appeal to us but i am reviewing the machine only. No more seltzer bottles in the trash. Bed bath and beyond is a good place to exchange the tank with a 20% off coupon.
Love mine, but if your not sure, ask for one as a gift. But it’s not really saving me any money as the available syrups don’t taste very good to me. That may be because i don’t do sugar free and the little containers of syrup simply can’t replicate the taste or regular soda. I use mine to carbonate fruit juices, primarily white cranberry juice. To make sure the juice residue doesn’t gum up mechanism, i simply turn the soda stream upside down, flush it throughly with hot water from the tap and leave it to dry it our deep sink. Treat it like a good steak, let it rest before removing the bottle. You do need to give your beverage time to ‘rest’ after carbonizing to allow the co2 time to dissolve into solution. If you try to vent off and remove the bottle to soon, you run the risk losing content and fizz. In case of impatience, i’ve learned to carbonize with my sodastream in the deep sink.
Purchased the sodasteam dynamo lx home soda maker. First the unit works very easily. It only took me less than 5 minutes to unbox and make my first soda. The first time using i didn’t carbonate the beverage enough and it was flat after one night in the refrigerator. Then i realized that you have to push the button three times for average fizz. I had only pushed once until i heard a buzzing sound. After the second batch which i pushed four times it was very carbonated for a few days. Also the flavors taste much better than i expected. The cola actually resembles the old coca-cola formula before they changed from sugar to high fructose corn syrup.
Great product but made cheap. This product does the job and does it well. My only complaint is that it is made very cheaply. The place where the bottle gets screwed into is plastic- so be careful not to over-tighten or misalign the threads. Same goes for the co2 canister. The main connector is also plastic. Same warning applies here too. The instruction manual depicts a lower base plate that looks like an extra support piece for the co2 canister and stead the overall design of the unit, however that did not come with my unit. The bottom of the unit is just open and bare.
Convenient and c02 lasts a long time. . We bought this after the scarlett johansson super bowl ad. My wife and daughter drink a lot of carbonated water. We have still been using the original co2 container for about 6 months. We gave away the flavor samples to people who like soda more, but we have tasted them and they are pretty good. No more rushing to the store to buy two liter bottles of seltzer. Seems like a great deal to me.
I was leery purchasing the sodastream because i’m picky about my coke. I like sugared coca-cola and when the variety pack came in with the sodastream, i was disappointed in the flavors. Fortunately, i had purchased sodastream naturally sweetened cola syrup on amazon when i bought the dispenser and it is wonderful. Tastes great, noticed that the ones that taste like sweet n-low don’t say ‘cane sugar’ on front of the bottle. This is so easy to use, all you could ever need can be found at walmart. Saves the environment, and since i don’t drink a whole can of soda, i can drink what i want and put it back.
The sodastream dynamo lx home soda maker deluxe mega pack is an easy to use and convenient way of satisfying one’s soda cravings. Just about anyone can find a flavor that suits them and the options for making are almost endless when one takes into account that the flavor and ‘fizz’ can be adjusted to personal taste. It does, however, require some real estate (on the tall side) and requires one to maintain a stock of the required ingredients and co2. And given the proprietary nature of some of the fittings you are somewhat locked into the manufacturer’s offerings for replacements. We haven’t had to replace/refill the co2 yet and will cross that bridge when we come to it. Some savings can be realized using this product and there’s certainly the convenience factor, once you have sorted out your favorite flavor(s) and worked out the supply chain requirements. All in all a good product and would recommend.
I was tired of bringing back home cans of soda water, filling the closets, the fridge, the trashcan. With the sodastream soda maker, i use the very nice water coming out of my reverse osmosis that i cooled down in the fridge and i make soda water when i want. No more stock piles of water cans. Very efficient (and environment friendly). I do not really care for the flavors included. They are ok, but if you want to drink a coke, better get a real coke than this syrup mix. I have the sodastream soda maker for over 1 year and i have not had any issues with it.
The co2 container that comes with this is. Got this for a present for a friend a while ago. The co2 container that comes with this is huge, and lasts a long long time (depending on how you use it i guess). We probably used it a couple times a week, and it is still going strong after a year. It really makes drinking water a lot easier. It gets the job done, simple to use, easy to clean, and extremely durable. Also, you are saving the environment too by using this over purchasing the bottled stuff.
I probably should have just built my own system, but my last few diy projects did not turn out awesome. I am a big fan of sparkling water. Since receiving this i have been drinking at least 3 liters a day. So far i dont care for any of the syrups other than the energy drink. For the most part i just mix sparkling water with lime and/or juice. I will probably go the adapter route once i run out of c02. The trade-in program is a bit a pricey considering it is ~$3 worth of c02 in the canister.
Works great, made on a budget. I gave this four stars because it is everything i wanted. I didn’t give it five stars, because it seems like they made it as cheaply as possible. Everything about this feels cheap. I will be very surprised if it doesn’t break soon. The cheap plastic makes the back cover a little difficult to snap in place, because you’re so afraid you’re going to break it. The bottles aren’t dishwasher safe, which i knew before i ordered it, but, seriously, why not?. My guess, based on the construction of the rest of the product, is that they were penny pinching with their materials. That doesn’t really make a lot of sense, considering people are paying ~$100 for a machine to shoot air into water. I think it’s a pretty safe bet that we’d be willing to pay a couple more dollars for something that was made well.
Been wanting one of these for a while now and finally decided to do it. As always, amazon reviewers helped me along the way. So i thought i’d just add to it to help anyone else out. For us, this is a way better decision than regular can soda all the time. The syrups are not that expensive at all. You can always catch them on sale.
We’ve been using it daily for several months and love it. The only thing i would change is to get rid of the chemical ‘flavor packets’ (we threw them out) and offer healthy, natural alternatives to flavor the sparkling water. With natural flavor options i would definitely give this a 5 star.
